How can I add two side surround speakers to my current 5.1 surround computer speakers? I currently have the Logitech x-530 5.1 speakers. There is only one 7.1 computer speaker product available and it's crap. I just spent $3k on a rig with one of the best motherboards available (MSI X299 Gaming Pro Carbon) and I want to take full advantage of the built in sound card. My first thought was to add a two speaker powered studio monitor set up for the side surround out using a 3.5mm to RCA splitter. All advice is that the built in amps in the studio monitors are not for hi-fidelity sound. I am, now, thinking of buying a mini amp with RCA input to passive speakers out; and using a 3.5mm to RCA splitter from the side speaker out on my sound card to the RCA in on the mini amp for the side surround speaker set up. Is this feasible? Will I damage my motherboard trying this?
