With my current specs, I was able to play Battlefield 4 at Ultra Settings with nearly no lags. Now I am planning to buy Call of Duty: Ghosts which recommends 8 GB of RAM. At this point I think I will need extra RAM to be able to play it.

My mobo supports 4x DDR3 RAM slots at 1900 Mhz. My current RAM setting is 4x1GB Corsair XMS3 1333 Mhz.

If I buy 1 unit of 4GB Corsair XMS 3 and make my RAM setting 1-1-1-4, total: 7 GB, all running at 1333 Mhz and also all being the same brand am I good to go for a better performance even if not a total recommended settings for cod: ghosts as my cpu bottlenecks me? If not what should I do for my current RAM line up?

Thanks for all your assistance guys

I believe he 1-1-1-4 are not his timing specs, but the memory capacity of his proposed 4 memory slots. From what he is saying, he currently has three 1 GB sticks installed and wants to add a 4GB stick to the remaining slot, thus 7GB total. I am wondering if his mobo uses tri-mode which is why I aske for his specific mobo.

I had my system specs written and saved in my profile settings but for some reason it didn't appear in my reply, I'm sorry for that bro. I will copy and paste them here then.

Mobo: Gigabyte EX38T-DQ6
CPU: Q6600-G0 @ 2.4 Ghz
RAM: 4x1 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3Corsair xms 3
GPU: ASUS Radeon HD 7870 DirectCU II 2 GB
PSU: 800 W Tagan 2
Force II series
HDD: WD Cavier black / no ssd

Currently, he has 4 1GB sticks. He'd have to take one out to add the proposed 4GB stick. 1+1+1+4 = 7

OP: I'd suggest 2 x 4GB, instead of adding just one 4 to that.

No, I was just trying to describe how they will be mounted on my mobo. 1st slot 1GB, 2nd and 3rd also 1GB and the last slot 4GB

So I will have 10 GB at total. 1/4/1/4 all at 1333 mhz. That sounds good to me. For the same price of buying those two new ram's I can get a bundle Corsair 8 GB (2x4) Vengeance 1866 Mhz. Which one should I go for now? 1866 mhz 8 GB or 1333 mhz 10 gb?

I'd just take out the 2 1GB sticks, to preclude any conflicts. 10GB vs 8GB won't make any real difference.

Thanks for all the assitance guys. I will remove all my 1gb sticks. But which one should I go for?

Thanks man, I didn't notice that my mobo supported max 8GB of RAM.

Now only a final question. My mobo specifications refer 'Support for DDR3 1900/1600/1333/1066/800/MHz, XMP memory modules, 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory & Dual channel memory architecture'. Is it able to run the '8GB Vengeance kit for dual channel systems, 1866MHz, 9-10-9-27, 1.5V'? And if yes will it be a good idea to only use two of the four slots?

that memory should work fine, although your best bet is to go to the Corsair site and use their memory configurator app/program to determine if it's compatible with your mobo. As far as 2 sticks vs 4 sticks, really shouldn't make a difference, personally, I'd go 2 stick. Last question, is your OS 32 bit or 64 bit? If it is 32 bit, you will not be able to use anything above ~ 3GB no matter how many GB RAM is installed. To utilize the full 8 GB, you must be running a 64 bit OS.
