SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: running data analysis software with very large data set (using R), gaming, recording tv, watching movies, listening to music

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Case, I suppose. I also have a few IDE DVD burners, but might want to make the jump to SATA. I also already have a 22" samsung lcd monitor, but would consider purchasing a second down the line. I also already have a copy of both 32bit and 64bit Windows XP

You'll need a powerful CPU if you want to crunch numbers. May I suggest an i7 920, and a 9800GT?

thats about 150 more than the above, which still puts you at 870ish. Heck you can pick up a cheap SATA DVD drive with the extra 30$

Actually TonCharr's config comes to $814 and not $714...He has missed to count in the PSU...
And my suggestions would be to change these...
1. Mobo - Gigabyte UD3R...Its BIOS can be updated to support both SLI and crossfire...
