70gb vanished from my harddisk

hello guys,i have a 200 gb sg hd,its total capapcity was 180gb,so i woke up 2day and poof,aroung 70gb arnt on the hd,i check the hd total capacity in properties,rather than reading 180gb it read 10.6 :S.


anyone knows what happened and what can i do?

Chances are the HDD is failing. I had about 30GB "disappear" from one of my 160GB Western Digital about 3 years ago. Since then it has been "stable", but I only use it for temporary files.

Right click the HDD and select the Tools tab, and click Error-Checking to test the HDD. Chances are those sectors have failed and have been permanently lost.

thats the log ,now the hd is partitioned into two,one is 20gb and the other is 108gb,now when i error chk i only get a log for the 108gb.
anyways do u see something wrong in my log??

Download the MFG's diag's, but be prepared to buy a new drive.

With severe filesystem corruption, the best approach would be to recover everything using read-only applications, and then reformat the HDD. After checking if the drive is physically ok, you can re-use it again.

But looking at the chkdsk some damage did happen to your filesystem.
