Hello,

I have just purchased a new laptop https://www.ebuyer.com/838808-hp-pavilion-15-cx0001na-gaming-laptop-4an69ea-abu and need some advice please. I have never owned optane memory, i have owed Samsung Evo drives so know how good they are although i am on a budget and considering getting a budget ssd.

My question is will i see any benefit of swapping the current hd and optane memory out for a cheap ssd ( Kingston A400 ) if the answer is yes should i keep the optane in the system or remove with the hd?

Many Thanks in advance

George

Depends how much is your budget and what are you gonna do with the notebook.
I would probably buy an M.2 SSD for system (a 120GB one would be fine) and keep the 1TB HDD for Data.

27 quid is like a 120GB SSD (cos I have no idea about in which currency you're talking)?

M.2 is a connection format.

According to this manual, page 46

the Optane module uses the M.2 slot as well. So you can swap the Optane module with a regular M.2 Sata SSD or M.2 NVMe SSD (faster, but more expensive). These costs around 50-60€ for a 120GB one. And you'll still have the big HDD for regular data, as music, vids, pics or games

Well, as I said, it depens what will you do with the notebook and if it'll be your main device, or some secondary one. I've been using my laptop with 256GB as a main computer for 2 years and I was always running out of space. But now I have it as secondary one, just for studies and travel (and watching movies in bed :D), then 256GB is alright
