Hi guys,

My system recently died on me and I'm upgrading it. And most probably I'm looking at a
FX 6300..
R7 260x or a r9 270..
4GB Ram..

I know this can handle 1080p at low / medium settings but since I'm ditching my 1440x900 monitor for my Full HD 32" TV, I'm planning to run all my games at 720p at ultra settings..

And yes i'll be sitting away from my TV ( Like if I was using a console ) and using a XBOX controller..

Will this work well? Can I expect to hit 30+Fps in almost all games at 720p ??
I am doing this because I am blowing my whole budget for this build as I don't intend to change this for at least 5 years..

Also will the scaling on the TV look bad or affect the look and feel of the game??
Also do I need to keep Windows also at 720p or just changing the resolution on the game will do??

First off at 720p an r9 270 will kick ass there, So if I were you I would go an r9 270. The r7 260x will do it but it will struggle a little more.
Not to mention with an r9 270 you'll probably be able to run most modern games at 720p at over 60fps at max settings.
Although for 5 years we will never know but the r9 270 will be overkill for 720p so if you're fine with that resolution you're good to go.

Also personally the scaling to me looks bad, and you will not need to keep windows at 720p just the game.
With an r9 270 you can run ultra with out AA, at over 30fps at 1080p anyway on games like BF4 and Crysis 2, but for 5 years heck no.

sum: r9 270 will be overkill for 720p and for 1080p it will be alright, and will manage over 40fps in both without AA.
For 5 years? we cannot know.

-good luck

About the scaling.. Shouldnt it work like the consoles??? I mean both resolutions are 16:9 so there shouldn't be any stretching..
Also won't it look just as good as the consoles do?? I belive XBOX one plays a few games at 720p and it still seems good..
Given that I'll be a good 6 to 7 feet away from the tv, I shouldn't be able to notice anything right??

I would recommend a Pentium G3258 (overclock to 4GHz on stock cooler) and a GTX 750 ti for 720p gaming at 30+fps. No need for an expensive Z97 mobo either. An cheap $45-55 H81 will do just fine as long as it has support for overclocking via a BIOS update.

Yes if you scale it right it'll look exactly like an xbox, with the r9 270 you could play some games at 1080p anyway.
Also it's 720p stretched to 1080p I believe (or upscaled). You can also play 720p with a black border around the screen but that's not any good.

Personally though I would go the r9 270 and play at 1080p anyway, I mean 1080p can look better than ultra settings in BF4 or Crysis 2. Sure there's more particles and other fancy stuff but if you want sharpness and better image quality resolution will make it better. So I would sacrifice details for resolution anyday.

Also from 6-7 feet you may not notice, but to me I would notice. Although Im very sensitive to resolution.
It's all up to you, if you're good then go ahead.

edit: What Billspear said, for 720p a gtx 750ti would be good at 720p but an r9 270 is more powerful and beats the gtx 750 ti.
Also you could on some games push ultra on 1080p with the card anyway.
