I'm thinking about the 731B or 740B -
They written on their site the 740B has 4:3 aspect ratio compare to 5:4 on most LCD's is it a mistake ? if not is it better ?
The use is for games video and internet (GPU- X800XL)

And overall which one is known as better ?
If personal experiment with those monitors or reviews would be added I will be thankfull but offcourse other replies would be greatfully accepted as well

Thanks in advance,
Liran.

Both are 5:4... 1280 x 1024. The 740 has greater contrast ratio and is brighter + faster response time.
Thanks for the reply, are you sure both are 5:4 ? it's a mistake on their site?
and by specs they have the same response time you're saying that by an experience or review ?

1. Never heard of ANY 17" LCD @ 4:3, so whatever site you're referring to is wrong.

2. I was curious about the difference, so I looked it up on Samsung's website... something YOU could have done for yourself, BTW.

First of all I don't care about the specs may it be Samsung, Viewsonic or any other well known company I've learnt a rule in tech and that's- never judge any audio gear or monitors by their specs
for that's I have a friend who have the 730B but no one sale it anymore here and I don't have any friend with these models so I come here to take an advice

Second: even after what i've said I think you're getting wrong with another model(BF series maybe)
because on samsung's site they both have same specs and FYI I looked at these specs -_-

In any event, for a 4:3 aspect, it would have to be UXGA... 1600x1200... no such animal in 17".

Perhaps you should be checking out the new Samsung 740BX... 5ms, 1000:1 CR.

Both of my statements were about your second clause

The 740BX still havn't been imported here..

BTW how's the 1732TQ ?

Well, this has a 6-bit panel... lots of buyers would try to avoid that.

If you end up buying without having seen it in person, I suggest you go to Newegg.com site and see which monitors get the best customer reviews. (Personally, I'm a Samsung and NEC fan.) Won't they ship overseas for an extra fee?

Israel... life's been too exciting in your part of the world lately!

The difference is in color depth:

8-bit: 2^8 x 2^8 x 2^8 = 256 x 256 x 256 = 16,777,216

6-bit: 2^6 x 2^6 x 2^6 = 64 x 64 x 64 = 262,144

The 6-bit panel acheives the remaining ~16 million colors by "dithering" them, not displaying the true color but something very close that is not easily seen by the human eye. I think "most" TN screens are 6-bit which allows for faster speed... good for gaming.

The Samsung models with "T" in their name are S-PVA... better about color ... look for those with 1000:1 contrast.

So you say if i'll go to a store and see the LG and will like it I should take it ?
like for games it'll probably be good isn't it ?
and if not i'll take the 731B

and thanks again for your help

1. You would always want see a monitor in person if possible. And if you like it knowing its limitations (i.e., maybe good text picture but with 25ms response it might not be good for games), then buy.

2. If you can't view before you buy, then you have to rely upon specs and reviews of others... a riskier proposition to your satisfaction.

I remember buying 4, Dell 1905FPs on reputation of being "among the best of the 19"ers". I was disappointed! Waaayy to bright with no way to tone them down enough + the white color had too much of a red overcast. I put them to work in a market trading platform with black backgrounds, so they are OK... but I can't say I really like them.... and I would not buy more of them, no matter what.

If you don't care about gaming, high contrast ratios, text sharpness, and color fidelity are likely mportant. Better to see before you buy.

the lg got 4ms and the samsung got 8ms
offcourse i'll see before i'll buy
but read again the specs or my replies

ohh okay the 25ms was just an example..my bad
