I'm wondering how well my notebook's 740M will hold up with a 2560x1080 res monitor. I'm not 100% sure taking the correct value into account, but I was eyeing the LVDS value for it and it says it supports up to 1920x1200.

Here's my gcard's manufacturer's link: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-740m/specifications

I game and do various media projects, hence the middle-of-the-road resolution selection, as I'm not able to get more than one monitor for now.

Personally I would look to upgrade your graphics card before bumping up to that resolution. While it is likely capable of supporting that resolution at the desktop you will have an incredibly difficult time pushing that many pixels in a game with your current GPU. Just my bit of advice.

For it actually supporting that resolution this [forum](https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3593135) indicates that it should be able to drive it on your desktop.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was expecting. I am eagerly looking forward to updating to an entirely new system; I have a desktop build list I'm putting together. It'll just be a bit before I can act on it.

By the way, I know the 1070 is supposed to perform at about 80% of the 1080, but what does that actually look like, if you follow what I'm saying?

Here is a link to a review done by Tom's Hardware that shows graphs of average FPS in recent games and shows a comparison to the 1080. I've always personally preferred this way of showing performance so hopefully that helps.

Sidenote: I also have a 2560x1080 monitor and you can expect nearly identical performance to gaming at 1080p because it's only about half a million pixels more. It can be incredibly difficult to find benchmarks on cards used on Ultra wide monitors so just be prepared for that.

Yes, that helps a lot. Thank you!
