Dad has asked me to build us a computer for the house. It will mostly be used for just searching the web and multitasking with "Microsoft Office" and "Adobe." Any input is appreciated. I'd appreciate it to be an Intel build and 12-16 GBs of RAM. Also please... please add $20 for a Windows 10 key. Thanks, everyone! Also, please remember this is not a gaming PC so don't waste the budget on a GPU.

16 Gb really is overkill for an "office" computer. 2nd Windows does not sell for $20, it sells for $100. Anywhere you find it selling for $20 is a stolen key, you take the risk of it not working outright or being shut off by Microsoft whenever they decide to clean out all the bogus activations. If you want to save money on the OS then just install Linux, its free.

I would not even bother with a homebuilt on that.. I would look into refurbished Dell Mini tower and slap a GT710 and make sure it has at least 8GB ram in it, I think something in the Haswell series like a i5-4xxx series cpu would be fine for home office.

such as this one for example

DELL Desktop PC OptiPlex 9020 Intel Core i5 4th Gen 4570 (3.20 GHz) 16 GB DDR3 500 GB HDD Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit : 320$

slap a GT 710/720 in ti and your done.
slap a wifi card if you need it or use a USB Dongle WIFI device for easier use.

it will have everything you need for home office, including window 64x pro license 😛

just one. i run dual and i know he wont need it

Were it not for Battlefield 1, Quake , etc., I'd happily be on Redhat , Debian, or Mint, etc....

You can use Libreoffice 98% of the time just as well as MS Office...

(But that 'please allow $20 for WIn10' is some quite funny nonsense, I've got to admit)....
