I will only be gaming so will the 7700k offer a noticeable benefit or will the 7700 be enough. Also I'll have either a 1080 or 1080ti so will the 7700 bottleneck?

I7 7700k with the 1080 ti will obviously be ideal, but if you aren't planning on overclocking, save money on the non k version. Also keep in mind that if you get the K version you will need to purchase a CPU cooler as well.

The amount of difference overclocking can make is a matter of perspective, but in this case, a stock 7700 vs an overclocked 7700k could be upwards of 15-20 fps difference in some games. In my mind, that's a pretty substantial difference, but I'm sure not everyone will agree with me on that.

I'll be playing 1440p 144hz, just gaming no streaming or anything. I'm only looking at the i7 so I don't bottleneck the gpu. From what I've seen the higher frequency doesn't do too much in games. If the 7700k is worth it I may as well get a z270.

Of course you would want the Z270, but it's not worth it in gaming. Again, if you are sure you are not going to stream and render it's PURELY gaming, then the i5 should be good for the 1080 Ti. No need to overspend if you don't need to.

That's just my three cents.
