This is going to sound stupid but I've never overclocked before.

Just overclocked my 7700K to 5GHZ all cores, 1.32 volts. It's running the Intel extreme utility stress test right now and is cruising at 70-73 degrees, not even over 15 degrees hotter than when i ran it at stock! Is that even possible? Is my computer misreporting the temperatures? Surely it would have died by now right?

RELEVENT SPECS
i7 7700k, delidded (Conductonaut liquid metal, Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste)

Noctua NH-D15 cooler

5 be quiet Silent wings 2 fans (4 140mm intake 1 120mm exhaust)
2 silent wings 3 top exhaust (used to be attached to a radiator)
Be quiet Silent base 801 with airflow front panel

Also, if this is really how much thermal headroom i have, how far can this chip go? SiliconLottery says the highest quality chips can go 5.3ghz!

Thank you!

I'd be pretty skeptical of such claims, but,...

Induce a known moderate load, such as in CPU-Z/bench/'stress CPU'...

See what the temps are then. :) (My own 7700K at 4.7 GHz is only at 60C under these conditions, but, that 300 MHz difference goes a long way.

And, just because the temps are not overheating, does not mean it will be 'stable', or have 'more headroom'...

See if it can do Prime95/small FFTs (AVX/AVX2 both disabled) with no errors for 15 minutes....
