Hello friends,

I have a question.

My Friend recently upgraded from a 6700 and wants to sell it to me for 150 USD. Thinking that I would buy it, I snagged a Asus z170 Maximus viii hero for 100 dollars. I was browsing Microcenter and saw a i7 7700k for 280 dollars. I have heard on other forums that the 7700k isn’t much of an improvement to the 6700. So, should I stick wiht the 6700 or spend some extra money on the 7700k and try to flash the Bios ( he will let me borrow the i7 to flash ).
So is it worth it to go for the 770k or settle for the 6700?
Anything helps! Thanks

A 7700K is worth the extra if you plan to overclock, especially if you plan to get good at it. There is a bit more to having a fast rig than clock speed alone but I don't think the 6700 will let you play with the north bridge or BCLK on that board.

The 7700K will always be easy to sell and demand a decent price in future where the 6700 will be worthless in a few years. I would probably offer your friend 125 or 130 for the 6700, if he won't take it you could spend a little more and get the 6700K for 200 bucks which will also always hold it's money.
