I'm planning on buying a new graphics card this summer and I was wondering if I should get the 780 or wait until Nvidia releases the 870. Since (at the time of writing this) they haven't announced it yet, that's why I'm wondering. I have a 660 atm, but I really really like max graphics (who doesn't). Will the 870 be enough of an upgrade from a 780 that it would be worth the wait?

Well...

At the moment a 780 can max SOME games with around 80fps or higher. BF4 has been seen maxed out at 110 fps at times depending on your CPU!

The 780 should last you for around 2 - 3 years then will start to run games on medium to high settings. The problem is we do not know when the 800 series will come out and right now the 780 is one of the best. Plus you can always SLI when you need to :L

The 780 will not max out all games at 80+ fps. But if you only plan on going with the 870, and not the 880, I'd suggest you just go with the 780 as with 780 will likely be roughly equal in performance to that of a 870, and you'll likely get it for cheaper now.

Let me rephrase that. Sorry. It CAN max out games with those type of frames. I didn't mean all.... Bf4 has been played with it staying steady at 110 fps for periods of time. But it was paired with an i7 and 16gb of ram.
