Ok I'm looking at these high end graphic cards, and I was originally going to get the 980, but then I noticed I could get a non reference 780 ti for like $430, compared to the GTX 980 $550, or $580 for non reference coolers. Would the added performance and extra gigabyte of video ram be worth the extra $120-$150? Also I could care less about the lower power usage of the 980, and I have no plans to sli.

Worth is something only YOU can determine.

The GTX980 is somewhat more capable. If the extra budget is not a problem for you I say go for it.
If you don't, you will forever wonder if you should have.
And... I actually prefer the stock titan blower cooler that EVGA offers.

I rarely regret paying a premium for the best.

To me the 780ti is the better deal here. Over $100 more for maybe 10% performance gain is not worth IMO. The 1gb of vram will only help on higher resolutions, and even then the 780ti and its 3gb decimates most games at 1440p. But in the end the 980 will perform a tad better and it is up to you whether it is worth or not.

I would also consider the 970. When OC'ed to 1500mhz, which the gigabyte and MSI models can easily do, it performs like a stock 980.

the 980 is more energy friendlier than 780ti it only require at least 500w while 780ti is at least 600w but 970 also an good option if you play on 1080p

Incorrect. The 780 ti will work just fine on a high quality 500w psu.
