I just got off Battlefield 4 and I have the EVGA precision X up on my other monitor and my GPU's hit 82-83C degrees pretty quick but stayed in that general area...is that normal for 780 Ti? it does the same with just one card also.

Solution
Absolutely not, nvidia set that temp target and who knows better than the guys who designed the thing. Your cards will last as long as they should without any throttling or danger or other nasties (as long as they are kept reasonably dust free).
81-83C is usually the thermal limit where it starts throttling. It does seem a little hot, but what type of card do you have?

If it's reference style that would be more normal to run hotter, but if you have EVGA ACX cooler then I think it should be a little lower. For comparison, my single EVGA GTX 780 Ti w/ ACX usually runs in the mid 50's while gaming, sometimes low 60's.

What case do you have? Does it have good airflow?

You could also set up custom fan profiles to be more aggressive.

I have the EVGA card but the Precision X has the Temp Target at 82C

They only have one fan

Yes, but is it reference style or with ACX cooler?

and your case? Like I asked before, does it have good airflow?

edit- looks like you have the reference style, so those temps are pretty normal. You could try adding extra fans in your case if you have any room left for them.

Its Reference style and I should have room...Its a full size tower NZXT phantom 630

yeah, I would suggest adding additional fans. I recently added 2 fans to my side panel in my full size tower and it dropped temps a little.

You could also do a custom fan profile using Precision X and just make it a little more aggressive. I always do this with my video cards.

By reach 82C it is doing exactly what you and nVidia have told it to do, namely overclock itself until the temperature reaches 82C and then maintain as higher speeds as possible whilst remaining at that temperature. It's a feature of the 700 series of cards called GPU boost 2.0.

So it's completely normal and safe.

So I have nothing to worry about with it hitting 82c?

ok thank you! I was worried they would burn out ( I usually do no life game sessions when I play games )
