Hi
I have a strange problem with my graphics card. It is a reference pcb Gainward 780Ti onto which I've mounted an EK Waterblocks full cover block. In the Nvidia control panel there is a setting for power management which they introduced a couple of years ago. The default is "adaptive" and allows the gpu to clock down when the workload in a game is fairly light to save power.
The problem I'm having is that the other option "prefer maximum performance" which should make the gpu run at full speed in 3D applications is not working. Effectively I'm stuck in adaptive mode.
I've tried the usual - reinstall drivers/roll back drivers/ uninstall the Gainward overclocking software/install different overclocking software/ turn off anti virus and nothing has worked. There isn't a problem in demanding games such as Far Cry 4,Crysis 3 as they run at full speed in adaptive mode anyway. The problem comes with less demanding titles such as Borderlands The Pre Sequel and even Mass Effect 3. Occasionally I can feel a hitch in-game (a mini freeze) and I'm convinced it occurs when adaptive power management is "changing gear" i.e. the clockspeed.
Can anyone suggest a solution - it is almost as if the Nvidia control panel software is failing to recognise when a 3D application (game) is running. Could alternative software such as Nvidia inspector help and if so what settings do I use?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Regards
