780 ti vs r9 290x

I am going for a very good system and I cant choose between these 2 cards. I will be using them in crossfire or sli in the future along with 3 screens. Is there a huge difference in performance because 100$ is a good sum that can go into other things or into savings. Another thought: should I just get the r9 290 (non X). Would that still be good?

P.S. I am going to be playing star citizen (a very demanding game that is set to release in 2015) and a few other games like bf4 and other.

Can you tell me if there will be a discernible difference?

With three screens, the 4GB of ram the R9 290X offers is pretty handy going forward.

Truth is they are both excellent cards and you will not be disappointed with either. It comes down to whether or not the roughly 10% performance increase of the 780ti is worth an extra $100-$200 to you.

You also may want to consider is the technology both manufacturers are pushing, gsync vs mantle. Nvidia wants to improve game smoothness and screen tearing through your monitor, this would require new monitors that support the gsync module and it will obviously come at a premium.

AMD says mantle will allow devs to optimize games console style, which can theoretically increase performance on your gcn radeon card at no extra cost to you.

Weigh the pros and cons of each card according to your needs and budget and purchase one. Whichever you choose you will not be disappointed.

What time u will buying the card?

right now r290/r290x not recommended to buy (price hikes, low avail) and u will need to go with WC setup/ DIY aftermarket cooler (accel..).... (for noise & heat issue, it's performance hindered because of it)

With that in mind if u can wait i would suggest wait for custom cooler r290/r290x out, wait for the benchmark data, hopefully the price also settle down...

If u cannot wait, then nothing wrong with 780ti, it's quite pricey but it at the top right now...
