my specs are:
intel 2.4c ghz (800 bus, 512 L2)
512 kingston + 512 twinmos (400 ghz) ram
intel 865 gbf mobo
radeon 9600 pro (256 mb)
blah blah blah

as u can see, i am running an agp 8x. i was thinkin of buying an 7800 gs on agp interface. i know u guys would say to change my rig to PCIe, but that would mean the entire thing to change: the ram, the HDD, proccesor and i have a lot of PCI devices, and it would mean a lot of expence.
i was wondering if it is really worth it to buy a 7800 gs now.

is it a hell lot performance difference? i thought it was just the voltage difference.

also, am i gonna bottleneck with my processor if i do buy it?

prozac is right the 7800's arent all that altho they are nice soon they will probably come out with another nice card for agp so just go for a ati card its not worth paying 400 for the 7800

I would take an x850 xt pe over a 7800 any day.

i read here in THG (real recently) that 7800 gs is better than X850 xt pe, i'm really confused.

if i upgrade my processor to 3.0ghz, will it still bottle neck?
is it just like installing RAM? do i have to re-install windows?

7800GS is overpriced, and barely ahead of a 6800GT in most benches..

A 6600GT or 6800GS would be a HUGE jump over a 9600 PRo...

X800 GTO if an ATI fan....

Reinstalling WIndows is not nescessary...

Use add/remove programs for all things ATI witin control panel, power off, replace card (with ps input plug removed!), abort WIndows default driver install attempt upon power on, and run Nvidia setup for latest drivers, reboot if nescessary when prompted...done.

Buy some more ram first if you are trying to improve you system performance.
If you are trying to turn up resolution in games or turn on features buy a new video card. Yes you bottleneck would be you processor but not a lot. I would look for a 6800gs or 6800gt first since the 7800gs seems kind of expensive right now.

You can get 2 x850s for the price of one 7800, so the choice is kind of obvious, go for the ati, it's just as fast and in fear always faster.

o sorry, i was actually talkin about the processor. i have changed gfx cards before but never the processor.
