7850 or 6950

I just built a new rig a few weeks ago and I have been using the 2500k's integrated video since then.
During my building process, somebody suggested to just wait for the 79xx cards. However, the current price is too high for my budget, and I really want to play my Steam games soon.

So, as the topic says, which one would be a better pick?
HD7850 or HD6950?

7850 has had some issues.

there pretty much the same card but one is newer if they both have 2gb memory.

I'd try to go 7870 if you could do so. If not go 7850 and you might be ok with issues.

I have no ideo what Hotthree is talking about in terms of "issues" with the HD 7850. I have an MSI HD 7850 and I have had absolutely no problems with it. I think it is a better choice over the 6950 since it is built on newer architecture.

7850 had issues when first released. Drivers could have fixed this. Like any product there are some good ones and bad ones in the bunch. Its pretty well known that 7850 had issue when released. Several Review sites brought this to attention. I was not making a bogus claim.

As mrawesome said, 7850 is newer architecture and would be the wiser choice. It'll run cooler and use less power. I was just stating an issue at release that this card had.

If you can find a 2gb 6950 thats an option but I wouldn't get a card with 1gb even for 1 display at 1080p

7850 has had some issues.

The only issues I found on the 7850 were over a pre-production reference card. The production units, especially the O.C. cards, have been impressive.

I ended my search and got a 7850 O.C. because it ran cooler, quieter, faster, and demanded less power then the 6xxx series cards, and was shorter than the reference card by 2 inches so it fit nicely into my case without having to crowd cables around it.

Add to that the fact that I can always CF it and I've just future-proofed my rig.
