7850k or i3 Please help

Okay so i already own the i3 4170 And the 7850k, I just wanna know which of these two would be better to use in my gaming/editing rig. If i used the 7850k it would be overclocked @4.6. last thing is im gonna be running theses with my gtx 770.

So let me know what you guys think.

The OP includes " last thing is im gonna be running theses with my gtx 770. "; therefore we could presume he's using a GTX 770 and the i3-4170 then is the better gaming CPU.

I presume he only has the processors; otherwise he could test them and easily figure out which one is better.

Thanks for all of your guy's help. I do have a gtx 770 the reason i ask is because if i went to amd i would have to get a new psu. im running a 500w right now and the a10 would be too much

i would because i hit my psu peek when i have all my fans/led's on unfortunately, when i ran the a10 it blue screened after a few min. thats why i was wondering which is better cause i dont know unless i get a new psu or run my computer off 2 psu's

I use APUs a lot in my NES PC builds and digital pinball tables I build and sell. There is no APU on the market that would require a 500w PSU. At all, period. So your blue screening was not due to having insuffient wattage. It may have been a garbage PSU, thats possible.

The OP has a GTX 770; he's not using the integrated graphics. In addition, an overclocked 7850K certainly draws more power than an i3. He may also be using a low quality motherboard.

I agree, but since the OP didn't provide info about the PSU, we don't know if it's a real 500W PSU or not.

late reply i have been dealing with some personal issues..

My power supply is EVGA 500w 80+

also 500w in no wa is enough. 4x120mm fans 2x92mm fans and a fan controller.
the mother board is not the problem because the 7850k w turbo boost stock aida64 ran for about 3 hours and crashed thats with everything being loaded. in case anyone has not read it yet but YES IT DOES HAVE A GTX 770.
