I purchased a 7870 ghz edition from Newegg back in July, and ever since I've had this really annoying anti aliasing problem. It usually affects MMOs the most, but it's still slightly noticeable in other games like Battlefield 3 and Skyrim. As of recently, it started really tick me off when I started Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Everything a few feet away from my character was heavily pixelated like a game from 10 years ago.

I've tried every combination of in-game settings, AMD catalyst settings, and SweetFX injectors. They helped fix the problem a little bit but nowhere near how it should normally be.

This video isn't mine, but it shows EXACTLY what I've been experiencing in-game. Pay close attention to trees, plants, and fine lines as they move on the screen.

Here's a screenshot of my FFXIV:ARR. It's definitely not as noticeable as a picture. Trees and grass look awful in the distance.

I don't have a link to my monitor, but I know the model is the Samsung Syncmaster SA300/SA350. I haven't tried switching displays so I'm not sure if it might actually be my monitor. I just know it's 1080p with a 75hz refresh rate so it's pretty standard.

That is what happens with trees and foliage without AA. MSAA does not apply to these types of textures. Nvidia has transparency AA options, which does help a little. AMD has Adaptive MSAA, which is supposed to fix this as well, but with both of these options, you'll find many, if not most games will not apply AA to foliage.

Try Adaptive MSAA in the CCC options. If that doesn't work, and you are playing an older game that is easy to max out, use SSAA. SSAA will fix all AA on the screen, but it does come at a big performance penalty. Assuming the game plays nice with it.

what do you mean? I don't think that's an option. I put everything to its maximum settings.

Like I said at the top, I tried all the settings, including CCC options. I even tried it again after your post but I still got the same results. the trees and grass are awfully pixelated.

Yeah, I'm pretty lost.

As I said, Adaptive-MSAA rarely works, and pretty much only works on DX9 games. SSAA also doesn't work on many games, if not most games.

Crysis 1, for example, requires you to force it to play in DX9 mode for SSAA to work. Most DX11 games give will not work with any method to fix those textures.

If Adaptive-MSAA and SSAA doesn't work, you are out of luck. You just have to live with it.

i saw it in the control panel shot in the vid.......... max visibility would show everything that's there. the trees might not pop the way they do. perhaps there's a similar option in yours?....... (draw distance/field of view/visibilty, etc.)

Adaptive MSAA can, but most games won't work with it. Pretty much only DX9 games will. SSAA is the best, but the most demanding, and also won't work on every game.

SMAA, FXAA, MLAA and other post process AA could help. The only problem is post process AA isn't as good.

Downsampling may also work (set your resolution to double your current, and the down scaling will behave like SSAA).

Guys, I've tried all of this. I'm using injectors and it's still awful.

Also, I may worded it a little strange, but this isn't happening on just one game. It's happening on EVERY game at differentiating levels, and keep in mind, I run all my games at maximum settings, with AA and AF pumped to max settings. I referred to ffxiv because it affects it the worst.

Some more games I know that are badly affected by it are Guild Wars 2, Tera, Warframe, Witcher games, Tomb Raider, and Crysis 2/3.

FFXIV: ARR runs on directx 9. They haven't updated it to directx11. SweetFX, which I used to alleviate the effect a tiny bit, is a msaa/fxaa post process injector.

Nah, that's not it. Other games I've played with visibility options still get the same effect.

ok I'll try this injector. I used sweetfx injectors. It uses msaa or fxaa depending on your preference. You can look it up if you like by googling "ffxiv sweetfx" or just "sweetfx" by itself.

Update: Works better than sweetFX but still not to the point where it's desirable.

As I mentioned before, some games won't work with Adaptive MSAA or SSAA, and nothing you can do will fix those well. SMAA, FXAA and MLAA will help a little, but then they also tend to make things look blurry, so I'd go without.

Not really.. the comp scored really well on the ffxiv benchmark, and I've seen 7870's on youtube run fine. The game runs well, it's the stupid anti-aliasing problem that's ruining all my textures in the distance.
