Hey guys,

This is my first post on here but i constantly check this site for help with my previous pc builds and what not.

Anywho, I was talking to a buddy at work and he was describing his pc build to me and i wasn't sure if he was blowing smoke or if he was telling the truth. He says he has three 7900gt graphics cards. Two dedicated to graphics and the third dedicated to physX. The part i question is that he was saying the he has heavily overclocked these graphics cards and claims to get better fps on BF4 than some of the modern graphics cards that are out now... I looked up the specs on those cards and They have a 256 bit memory bandwith which is good but the memory speed is low, gpu processor is at like 400mhz and it has like 256 MB of vram. Even with a heavy overclock i dont see how he can claim to have such and awesome setup for modern games.

Any thoughts? Just curious if this type of set up would yeild the results he claims. I know i havent given any specific fps or graphics cards he is comparing too but any information would be great.

Thanks

Your friend wouldn't even be able to play BF4. The 7900GT is a DirectX 9 card, Battlefield 4 requires at least a DirectX 10 card. (GeForce 8000 series or higher for Nvidia)

Even if BF4 did have a DirectX 9 codepath, he wouldn't see good performance even on the lowest settings due to lack of VRAM and the GPU itself being extremely slow. SLI would help a bit, but not that much with a VRAM bottleneck. His 7900GT is about equivalent to the Playstation 3's GPU, but the last gen console versions of the game are heavily cut down compared to the PC version, with graphics even worse than the PC's lowest possible settings, and the console version of the game had to be heavily optimized to squeeze every last pixel possible out of that ancient GPU. Even then, the last gen console releases were running at less than 720p and frequently dropping below 30FPS.
