In the past I have preferred nvidia, as it consistently got better fps in games and I have heard its better for drivers. Well, it seems that is no longer the case. So I am now looking to upgrade, as my current 2 cards aren't really cutting it anymore.
Naturally, I want to continue running my 4 monitors. Can the 7950 do this by itself? It says it supports the new 4k monitors, which is the same overall res, but can it do 4 separately?
It also hasn't been my top priority, but the eyefinity/surround seems pretty cool. I would LIKE to run a single game on 3 of my monitors (my 4th is a tv off to the side anyway) but what kind of fps could I expect in games? Does anyone have some actual numbers for d3 for example?

Will my current rig support this properly, or will I have to make some other upgrades. I'm a little concerned about my cpu...

CPU: Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHZ @ 3.5
Motherboard: MSI p55-gd80
Memory: 12.00GB - 2x Corsair XMS 3 4gb at 1600, 2x kingston 2gb 1333
Graphics Cards: Nvidia GT 430 / GTX 550 ti
Monitors: 2x 21" AOC, 1x 22" Dell, 1x LG 42"
Screen Resolution 7680x1080
PSU: LSP 750
Case: APEVIA X-TROOPER
Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper TX3
Hard Drives: 1 x 1TB Seagate 1 x 2tb Hitatchi

And as a side note, if I do get some extra money in the next month before I actually do this, there is the option of the 7970 or crossfired 7870s for the same price. Which would be better?

Solution
You won't be able to max out your games (recent demanding games) on a single 7950 with a triple monitor setup. As for Diablo 3, well it's not a very demanding game, so you might be able to max it out.

You can use 4 monitors on your 7950, but check this out:

I'd suggest crossfiring 2 7950's. Or get a single 7970 now (and OC it - though most probably you still wouldn't be able to max out recent demanding games), and another one when you can afford it.

I don't have actual examples, but just think about it. You are basically running games in 3k resolution. So you should expect performance between wk and 4k. Here is a benchmark of the 12.11 drivers. Luckily at the very bottom they show eyefinity.

Benchmarks for some of the games will be a little higher than they are now because of driver updates, but that is the closest you will see to the actual numbers you will get. Also, there is a chance of bottlenecking with that cpu you have. The thing is, if you get a new cpu, you will need to get a new motherboard. So you would basically be doing a full upgrade at that point. I also noticed that you screens are different sizes, that could be really confusing if you are using multiple to game.

Ok, I'll likely do the 7950, and possibly crossfire it later. As it is, I game with only 1 monitor, and sometimes have firefox/chats on my right/left. As it is, this cuts the main monitors fps pretty significantly...
The rest of my setup should be fine? or does anyone have any suggestions for that too?

The rest of your setup does seem fine. But if you ask us to be nitpicky, then you could of course upgrade your motherboard and your cpu to a more recent i5/i7 😀.
