7950 CF with 7970?

Will the 7970 disable itself to 7950 level, or will it run with full 7970 spec with the 7950?

Neither.

If the 7950 is at 100% load, you'll probably see the 7970 working less hard since it's a faster card. Your net performance will probably be about CF 7950s, but the 7970 doesn't downclock or anything.

At one time I had understood that a Crossfire like that would lower the clock speed to the slowest card but the drivers may have changed that I have been away from AMD for a few months so I can't say. But in either case it will still be a very good setup. I have a Crossfire HD 7950 in my FX-8120 rig and it is still very good.

I'm not sure you follow.

The 7970 and 7950 are the same GPU, both variations of the Tahiti core. When you Crossfire a 7970 and 7950, the 7970 disables the cores it has extra to essentially make a 7950.

I follow what you're trying to say -- you're just wrong.

The 7970 operates as a 7970, the 7950 operates as a 7950. Each card draws every other frame. The net result will be about what crossfire 7950s would be, but the 7970 doesn't downclock or disable anything -- it just has to work less hard to draw its frame.
