7950 Crossfire on M5A97 R2.0 possible ?

Hey,

I'm wondering is this possible. I dont know too much about motherboards and PCI slots, I just noticed that one slot is working on x16 and another one on x16 but x4 mode ? What that means ?

And in case that this cant be done what motherboard should I looking for ? Unfortunately I bought this one couple weeks ago for my fx8350 but I didnt pay attention to this. Sometime around Christmas I would like to buy another 7950 and extend my "piece" with this PC

Yes it supports crossfire. X16 X4 runs at average 10% performance penalty to a board with two X16 slots. If that is not acceptable I suggest upgrading to 990FX board.

It's possible, but the x4 link for the second card isn't optimal. It may negatively affect performance, particularly at high resolution.

An Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 would provide optimal Crossfire performance.

the 2.0 x4 setup will run at a pretty sizeable penalty. as a previous poster stated something like a 10%-15% penalty. which is really unaceptable. a 2.0 x 8 setup would be at like a 5% or slightly better penalty, and would be better atleast. A 990 chipset motherboard would be a better idea, as it will allow 2.0 x8 or 2.0x16 in xfire (depending on the board)
