7950 with AMD P2 955? And 5850 with Intel G620?

Hi guys,

I want to upgrade my GPU from 5850 to 7950. This is my current build, do you think there will be any bottlenecks/power shortage?

AMD Phenom II x4 955 stock
ASUS M4A-87TD (or something like that, too lazy to check)
Sapphire HD 5850 Toxic 2gb
G.Skill Ripjaws 4gb 1600 (2x2) + OCZ XMS3 2gb 1600
OCZ GameXStream 600w


So that's the first question, the second is that I'm going to base a new build around my old 5850 for my little brother, it should be about 350$ plus the GPU. Here's what I'm thinking

Intel Pentium G620 2.6gb
Asus P8H61-M LX (or suggest another board)
my old Sapphire HD 5850 Toxic 2gb
G.SKILL Ripjaws X 4GB (2 x 2) 1600 CL8 V1.5
Corsair CX430 V2 (430w)

Will the G620 bottleneck the 5850? I currently game with it at 1920x1080, will they be able to handle high settings at 1600x900 (he has a smaller screen)? And what about CPU-based games?

Both seem like good upgrades. What games will you/ your brother be playing? I also think that 430 watts might not be enough for a 5850. I would give your brother the 600 watt psu and get a 500 watt one for yourself.

Looks good. The 430 with the right adapters and using the right rails will work fine as for the 620 I bet it benches higher with the new card.

I play everything, Battlefield, Skyrim, all the new games basically... and he mostly plays battlefield, so the 5850 will see pretty much similar usage with him

And I calculated power on an online calculater and it gave me around 300w, so I picked the 430. Should I Get him a 500 to be in the clear? no plans to crossfire or anything

That PSU is fine but as I mentioned use the right combination of adapters and rails.

I'm not sure what you mean. Shouldn't it come with the right rails?

What power supply calculator did you use? Some are much better than others. The other reason I chose the 500 watt one is because it was $35 after the rebate.

I don't think another calc will make that much difference, and the CX430 is 25$ after rebate (Plus I live in Egypt so I don't get that anyway)
