Hello,

I noticed the gpu and cpu usage are not allways on 99% and i don't know much about harware but i always play games on 4k and i think the gpu should be 90+% usage on all time no?
Some games have good gpu usage like red dead 2 which stays usually 90+% but some games have very weird gpu/cpu usage like overwatch and call of duty and some other games. I don't know if this is normal or not can you guys help me?

here is my pc specs:
  • ᴄᴘᴜ: R9 7950X3D
  • ᴄᴏᴏʟᴇʀ: Lian Li Galahad II LCD Infinity ARGB White
  • ᴍᴏʙᴏ: Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER (rev. 1.0) EATX AM5
  • ʀᴀᴍ: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) AMD EXPO DDR5 6000MT/s C30
  • ꜱꜱᴅ1: Crucial T500 M.2 NVMe Gen4 (UpTo 7300MB/s + DRAM) - 1TB
  • ꜱꜱᴅ2: Crucial T500 M.2 NVMe Gen4 (UpTo 7400MB/s + DRAM) - 2TB
  • ɢᴘᴜ ᴍᴏᴜɴᴛ: Cooler Master MasterAccessory Vertical GPU Card Holder Kit V3 Black PCIE 4.0 x16
  • ɢᴘᴜ: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24GB AORUS MASTER
  • ᴘꜱᴜ: DeepCool PX1200G 1200W, ATX3.0, PCIe5.0, Fully Modular, 80Plus GOLD
  • ꜰᴀɴꜱ: Lian Li Uni Fan SL Infinity ARGB White (7 Fans)
  • ᴄᴀꜱᴇ: Lian Li O11 EVO XL

Here is some pictuers of the usage during OW and Call of duty

In the bios i have the following enable:

Rams = Low Latency Support + EXPO High Bandwidth Support
CPU = Precision boost overdrive

Please let me know if everything seems normal or not because im overthinking this a lot

It's normal, the 4090 is fast card,in some non graphically demanding games your cpu is just keeping the gpu back since the gpu can push hundreds of frames even in 4k.

What kind of gamer are you playing call of duty at 4k high. You must have 800 frames a second and you need to run 1080 low so you can pown everyone :)

Games vary a lot in their gpu/cpu usage. Call of duty is one that is know to be more cpu dependent...but a lot of people really do run it at 1080 for the frame rates so I get confused as to what you should expect.

Are you getting the frame rates you expect. Are you capping the frame rate in the game settings say to match your monitor. Could just be your machine is so powerful it is easily handling those games.

If you were to try cyberpunk espeically with ray tracing on it tends to kill even the most powerful machines at 4k.

I would run some of the common cpu and gpu benchmarks. Try to avoid userbenchmark site. Something like cinebench is better for cpu and you can compare your results to others on the internet. Not sure about a good gpu one heaven is a older one, the best ones are paid unfortunately.

Some game have their own special benchmarks built in.

In the end the question is does the game you are playing run smoothly and look good. You have to avoid the chasing numbers for numbers sake. Many games are written very poorly. You see stuff like starfield that was worked on for 6 years launch and run like crap and now almost a year later it has not improved much.

All games run smoothly so far all though sometimes they drop half a second from 138 fps (which is what i have capped cuz i play with Vsync + Gsync ) it will drop to 90 ish or smth it happen very fast like for 0.5 sec or smth then get back up that only happen in some games that i noticed. a game i reugular play is dead by daylight is this normla ?

Likely it is fine. If you look at some of the benchmark sites what you now commonly see is a a second line in the charts that show 1% lows. I forget how they determine that number but it is very common in almost all games to see the frame rate get spikes to lower numbers.

Unless the game is some shooter game you really will not be able to see it unless the frame rate drops below 60. Even in shooter games it make little to no difference.....unless of course you are the "competitive" gamer living in moms basement :)

Are you happy with your gaming performance?

You really do not want to see either cpu or gpu utilization at 100%
The cpu generates frames, and the gpu and monitor presents them.
The process is not necessarily overlapped.

I have few questionts, ive seen some videos where the cpu speed is always 5200mhz and above mine is so weird, like it will hit 5225 ish and drop to 4700mhz - 4900 why is that? i also noticed on red dead 2 when i tap out with the game on boardless the cpu speed is always 5100+ and above and when i tap back in game its the same 4700mhz to 4975 mhz and sometimes 5175 for few seconds ? is this normal? the cpu usauge is 70-80 watt. and in ryzan master i have the cpu on echo mode i dunno if i should switch it to defual
