7970 CF overkill at 1920x1080

i would like consistent 60 fps in crysis, far cry, and battlefield...will one do that for me? i can afford two, i am only asking because if i can get one i could put that 400 to a nice monitor.

A 7970 will do many great things for you. At 1080p http://www.tested.com/tech/3328-tested-amd-radeon-hd-7970-video-card-benchmarks/ the cards seems pretty reliable but if you want 60+ fps on all games tune down AA a bit and you'll be good. I would def. get it. I have a radeon 7870 at 1080p playing far cry 3 on everything maxed except AA and I get 40-60fps everywhere.

Nothing is overkill at 1080p i dont like that word.If you want to max out crysis at 1080p even with 2 cards you would porbably still dip down under 60 fps in crysis 3 from time to time.Witcher 2 as well and a few other games. It really all depends if you want to absolutley max all your games or not.

If you got a nicer monitor, what size would it be? are you talking about a larger res.?

If so, then you are knocking down the ability of the one gpu!
I would still get only 1 to start with.... They aren't going to sell out and leave you hanging! You can always go back for another!!!

As a owner of 7970 CF , it is overkill at 1080p, at 5760x1080 it's needed to maintain playable fps at high settings

And for the record 7970 CF easily handles Crysis 3 at max settings, though at max settings it chugs at 5760x1080, might need a 3rd card for that one
