7970 Ghz CF vs GTX 970 WC

My system is 5 years old now and I decide to upgrade my GPU (I'm currently running a single XFX HD 7970 Ghz 3gb) but I'm in between two options
1. Get another 7970 ghz and crossfire
2. Get a GTX 970 (MSI Gaming 4G) and run water cooling
Problem I might counter is from where I live the room temp kinda hot so CF would even make it worse. I will get a 144hz monitor as soon as I get the card and run at 1080p so I'm all ear for enlightenment

i would not do an ati card crossfire coz it needs more power

I heard the GTX 970 has some issue with the VRAM, is that really true?

im using an ASUS Strix GTX 970 no issues as such
vram issues was that Nvidia said it was 4 gb but has actually 4 gb divided into 3.5 and .5
most of ur game wont take max 3.5 gb so no issues.
