7970 min FPS Problem 1 fps

when I'm using my xfx 7970 at the stock clocks(1000/1425)for some reason it dips to 1 fps constantly in fc3, tomb raider, Bioshock infinite, and bf3. Does anyone know why? I am using the 13.5 drivers
specs:i5 2500k @ 4.3 GHz
16 gigs corsair 1600 ram
gigabyte z77-d3h
750w thermaltake psu

What model of Thermaltake is it? I hope you got a good one because they do have some real crappy units and the 7970 uses a bit of juice and if the PSU has lots of noise it can wreak havoc on the video card and end up damaging the systems components.

Thats what I feared. The entire TR2 series has issue with noisy rails(unstable power) and can't deliver its rated power.

Sorry for the bad news but you should really get a new power supply asap, the best are tier 1,2 and 3. A quality 550-600w unit should be good.

ouch, didn't know TT psu's have issues. anyway, lots of good brands out there, and it pays to read around before buying, you never know if there are issues, even with known brands

The corsair HX750 is the best in the list(the other Corsair and the OCz's are a close behind and good units, but I wouldnt even consider that coolermaster its barely better than the thermaltake you're replacing), but its more than you need for a single 7970 but not quite enough for 2 in crossfire. Where you thinking you may ever crossfire 2 7970's?

hey, (just an idea), not sure if you noticed this but V-sync in the games options can cause low FPS. if it's on in your game settings, try turning it off and see FPS after.
