I recently got a XFX DD 7970 and a new Alpine 700W PSU. I knew that this PSU would not have an 8-pin connector which I required, so I ordered a 2x molex to 8-pin. The video card usually works fine when playing older games such as Battlefield 2, but if I play a newer game with higher system requirements, it will run fine for 5-10 mins, then the system will power down instantaneously, requiring me to unplug the power cord, flick the power switch on the PSU on and off again, then plug the power cord back in, then it will boot. I suspect it could be the power supply, but please give me some ideas to what the problem could be.

Thats a underpowered PSU. Seriously a 700w psu with one pcie connector :O . If you want your system to run a be alive for years throw that psu and get a "xfx core edition 550w PSU" which will be enough for your system.

Thanks, power was the issue, and I've managed to get it working by adding a second PSU that I had lying around. I had to do a bit of modding with the cables that tell it to start up but it's a nice temporary fix and it sits nicely in my front drive bays.
