7970 VS 680

Can you guys tell me which card is better? the 680 or 7970? I heard that the 7970 had driver problems does it still have that?

if you play any of the games that takes advantage of physx then get the 680. borderlands 2 for example. otherwise the 7970 is the overall winner.

i have a 7970 and ive had no drivers issues for almost a year. so you should be good there.

most driver issues have been fixed and the latency issue fix is the next driver update but I can't tell on my 7850

Thye both offer similar performance but the 7970 generally runs quite a bit cheaper, costing closer to the 670 than the 680

No my 7970 drivers are flawless. get a 7970 if you dont care about phsyx if you do a 670 is a nice choice. however a 7970 is faster than a 670

Both cards are excellent however current pricing marks the 7970 a much better value.

and consdring a stock 7970 and 680 trade blows you cant really go wrong with a 7970

Tried both, went with the 7970 first after having a 7870 that had stutter/artifact problems. 7970 was no different and this was on post 12.11 drivers which were better. 13.2 may fix it but my 680 feels much more fluid I don't think I'd bother switching back to AMD.

I disagree. i played on my mates 680 gameplay feels the same. Smoothness is different for everyone

Don't get me wrong certain games felt no different but games like ARMA 2 and Skyrim there was definitely a difference and I had multiple friends test it to make sure I wasn't just trying to justify spending more on the 680.

Funny that i tried skyrim, metro,and battlefield 3. In skyrim it felt the same for me. Like i said smoothness is different for everyone

Yeah that board comes with OC Genie which is pretty good too, and its made for overclocking really

lol, why dont you AMD fanboys go get 2 exactly same rigs, 1 with 680 reference, 1 with 7970 reference, TURN FRAPS OFF, Or any monitoring program, And what them both being played, Same map, No Numbers. NVIDIA gives you an WAY better Visial experience. *** bang for your buck, Spend the $$$ and fall in love

like i said i played on my friends 680 i own a 590 my self and a 7970ghz Looks the same

the biggest difference i could see between my friends 680 and my 7970? i could see his wallet was empty since he spend $570 on his 680 (where i live)
and i spend 417 haha!!

IN my completely hoest opinion a 60 is an over priced dressed up 670,and as far as im concerned 7970 beats fancy overly dressed 670 (7970 is cheaper, more ram, 384 bit bus, did I mention CHEAPER). Even if the 680 provided a little more performance it does not justify the extra $100 you pay. That 100 could go to other things in the build. I have been asking the same question in my mind as op did, and after looking at benchmarks, gameplay as you say is soooooo important, and the price tags (ive seen a 7970 for $360), the 7970 is by far a clear winner.

The old 7970s are roughly equal or slightly slower than a GTX680 at normal resolutions and assuming you don't do anything crazy, like multimonitor or 3840x2160 or whatever.

The only practical advantage would be that the 7970 will perform considerably better with AA/AF

The newer 7970GHz editions beat GTX680s at stock, and when overclocked stomp the GTX680 pretty hard, not to mention high res/aa/af advantage.

The 7970GHz is also cheaper than most 4GB GTX680, that's what I reccomend.

Both will kill any game, but the 7970 will give you more eye candy and is cheaper, so the 7970 is still the best bet

How do you figure more eye candy? If you want to argue a couple more frames per second, then sure, but it's not like you aren't going to be running max everything with either card.

As said above I've had both and the 680 is the clear winner for me. With the 7970 I had to use radeonpro to get some games working smoothly but some still wouldnt work right (FIFA 13), I also agree with the above poster the image quality on nvidia is better for me and I noticed things straight away I hadn't spotted on AMD. Price is the only let down for nvidia cards.

Forget these benchmarks that show max fps. Nvidia cards are much better in my opinion at holding a consistent fps instead of going up and down like my 7970 did.

I may have had a bad card but I've heard similar from others who have owned both.
