7970m w/ Win 8.1 - no performance difference?

hi guys! recently i installed win 8.1 for the performance boost i (thought) would get in bf4, tough i got nothing. the fps didn't change at all and so i wanted to ask a few questions, to see if there's anything wrong i'm doing:
1. no DX 11.2- when i open dxdiag on the run menu it says DX version: 11. shouldn't it say 11.2? or at least 11.1? if it doesn't say that there, where is ihe version noted? i know my GP supports DX11.1, but does it support 11.2? where can i download it?

2. having a laptop- i've got a sager Np9150 with an i7-3610QM and a 7970m. does that mean the win 8.1 performance boost won't affect me?

3. does it affect everybody- i dd not find anyone online saying that wn 8 didn't do wonders for him, but is there a chance t might just not work?

What did you have before you upgraded to Windows 8.1? I don't believe anybody has benchmarked a speed difference between 8 and 8.1, and the speed difference between 7 and 8 is minimal, usually only made apparent through benchmarking.

I would only expect noticeable differences in performance when upgrading to 8.1 when coming from either XP or Vista, although, in-game, I doubt you would gain much over Vista unless the machine was resource starved.

ok ok, taht's not the point. how do i know what DX version i have?

Well, you already know how to find the major version number correctly, using DxDiag, so all you need do next is click on the Display tab in DxDiag and on the right-hand side in the Drivers section, look for Driver Model. A WDDM of 1.2 will be DX 11.1 and a WDDM of 1.3 will mean you're running DX 11.2. 🙂

Windows 7 is not faster than Windows 8 by any means, but for a period of time, driver support on Windows 8 was immature. That is hardly the case now, but differences in speed are still not going to be significant.

ok. i've checked and according to whatyou've said it appears i have DX 11.1. is there any way to update to DX 11.2?

There is no download for DirectX 11.2. About all you can do is ensure you're using the latest drivers for your graphics card, as you already have Windows 8.1.

Totally irrelevant anyway until there is a game or program that makes use of DirectX 11.2 specific features.

Also, I don't know if it's by design or going to be patched, if you are running integrated graphics such as Intel's that only support WDDM 1.2, your other graphics cards will also be run as WDDM 1.2.

You can either disable the integrated graphics, hope that there is a driver update for the integrated graphic's driver to support WDDM 1.3, or live with things the way they are. I suspect you would be unable to tell the difference between WDDM 1.2 and 1.3 anyway, but how you want to deal with the situation is up to you. 🙂
