[SOLVED] 7F 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT crashes

Hi c: Recently I decided to get a new computer as my old one was quite out of date however this exception has been plaguing me ever since I got the computer around Christmas. I've tried countless solutions to try and alleviate the error. I've flashed the most recent version of the BIOS onto the motherboard, I've ran memtests, I've swapped out the ram with different ram and the issue persists. I've tried disabling XMP and keeping the ram at a lower rate. I've managed my temps while playing games in HW monitor, the CPU will stay at a average of about 45C~ and wont really vary aside from the occasional 1 second spikes to 70C~ . I've tried messing with the VCORE and I still get the crashes regardless. I don't think anything in particular really causes the crash to happen aside from the PC seeming to not like WoW in particular. The crash isn't exactly a BSOD but the monitors go black and the PC hangs and is unusable unless I restart the PC VIA the power button. I'm starting to believe that it might be a hardware issue but i'm hoping for the best. Any help is really appreciated c: Specs:

is this a Cyberpower pc? only based on the description of
1,000 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Gold Power Supply

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

  1. Open Windows File Explorer
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .
I don't see Double faults very often so not sure if its a driver issue or not.

Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the BSOD. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors. Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it

Page faults are normal operations of any operating system that uses Virtual memory. Its just a badly named event that makes people think its an error. All it means is CPU couldn't find info it needed onboard and looked at ram. If crash text mentioned a Hard fault, it would show it looked on storage. This looks like it had an issue with the data it found in ram.

It could be a driver still.

Unfortunately yes it is. I've ran some mem tests before with no errors and I've tried swapping around the sticks with a few other ones I have around and i've been getting the crash still but I can try to run it again. Also for some reason it really does not like me playing WoW I can usually play other games no issue, for example I was able to have a VR game running for 8 hours with no issues; then I launch WoW for 30 seconds and the PC shuts off. Thanks for the reply and let me know if you need anything else c :

Hi, I ran the dump file through the debugger and got the following information: https://jsfiddle.net/jf9mwL2v/show This link is for anyone wanting to help. You do not have to view it. It is safe to "run the fiddle" as the page asks.

File information:040721-5281-01.dmp (Apr 7 2021 - 23:20:48)
Bugcheck:UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7F)
Probably caused by:memory_corruption (Process: EpicGamesLauncher.exe)
Uptime:0 Day(s), 0 Hour(s), 01 Min(s), and 47 Sec(s)

Possible Motherboard page: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z490-A-PRO
You are using BIOS version 2.1. The latest is version 2.8. Wait for additional information before deciding to update or not. Important: Verify that I have linked to the correct motherboard. Updating your BIOS can be risky. Never try it when you might lose power (lightning storms, recent power outages, etc).

This information can be used by others to help you. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

ASUS PRIME Z490-V
doesn't match what BIOS says you have
MSI Z490-A PRO (MS-7C75)

I have to assume bios knows what it is.

5 bios updates since your version, it could help - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z490-A-PRO
Update Intel Management Engine Interface driver, its in Drivers Other - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z490-A-PRO#down-driver&Win10 64

do you use WIFI or Ethernet cable?

Yeah you're right it's MSI idk why I thought I would trust cyberpower when posting specs. Anyways I downloaded the intel interface driver and updated that however the odd thing with the BIOS driver. When I load the "newest version" onto a flashdrive and attempt to update it shows the files on the drive as an older version of BIOS and that i'm currently on that version.
edit: Now that I'm actually looking at it, I believe I'm on the right version of the BIOS it says I'm on version 2.80 which corresponds to the version 28 on the website I believe. The date displayed on the actual BIOS files and the date on the website are different so it seemed odd.

Cyberpower - I know they have custom motherboards made for them by Asrock but I am not sure about MSI. The Asrock ones have BIOS made by Cyberpower themselves, it is on their support website.

This is what is showing in dump
VENDOR: American Megatrends Inc.
VERSION: 2.10
DATE: 05/21/2020

The version number is the SMBIOS number, not the number series MSI shows, their numbers look like this - 7C75v21 - but I have done this before and knew to expect it. So the date of that bios I listed just now is 2020-05-25 which is just 4 days after date on your system (close enough). If you look in system information application (search for system info) and look in the field BIOS Version/Date it might show the number I linked above in bold
Latest on MSI site is actually 7C75v28 dated 2021-02-04
but I will have to look into whether they have a custom model for Cyberpower or not. Its 4am here now so it won't be tonight.

I believe your story, let me check it before trying it again.

Thanks for the quick reply and take your time. I'm realizing something now, that the reason everything is messed up is that it seems the minidump file is old. I'm not sure why but it looks like the file is from the 7th of this month and I've since then updated the BIOS to the most recent version. I'm not sure why the dump file is old considering that I just enabled minidumps no more than a few hrs ago when you recommended. I'll do some research and try to get a more recent version of the dump. Thanks for all the help by the way; I appreciate it.

i didn't look at dates

Have you touched Page file settings? that is 1 reason you won't get a dump file.

Intel® Core™ Processor i9-10900KF
ASUS PRIME Z490-V
1,000 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
GeForce RTX™ 3080 10GB
Cooler Master MASTERLIQUID ML240L V2 240mm
What else is in PC?
so do you know what storage drives you have? NVME? SSD? brands?
it should show you in device manager
Most hardware makers have tests you can run on their drives, if you tell me what you have I probably find a link.

I'm not sure how this forum likes links and I can remove it if it's an issue but speccy seems to help when I was trying to share info on my parts so here's that link
http://speccy.piriform.com/results/UHflAltadhm5dhUDvAUgRfS
and no I haven't touched the page file settings I believe. I usually shut down the PC fairly quick after I see the screens go black and I hear everything stop. But I'll try to give it a little time after it crashes and see if it creates a dump file.

i almost suggested speccy, I find it gives too much info. I don't need to see all the windows file info :)

Western Digital - run this on both - https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?lang=en&p=279
I have an LG ultra gear monitor too
I've ran the software and the SSD had a firmware update; I did that. Now I just need to wait and see if it crashes again and if it does hopefully it creates a minidump. I really appreciate all the help :) hopefully I can get things in order soon so I can stop bothering you.

Oddly enough I cannot get the PC to create a new minidump. I left my PC on a game while I went to do something and came back to the PC at the lock screen and I can see the crash in event viewer alas a minidump is not created even though I have the settings correct.

i forgot to reply...

i wonder if pc knows an error is happening. if its a black screen and it doesn't bsod, it might not be windows causing it.

can you run this for me, it makes a zip file, might give me a clue - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/pages/bsodcollectionapp/
upload instructions same as bsod ones really

Does it only happen in games?

can you download hwinfo - https://www.hwinfo.com/download/
when you open it, tick the box next to sensors only and click run
in the next screen, look at bottom right of window,
Click the button that says "logging start" if you hover over it, its to right of the clock icon
this opens File explorer and allows you to create a log file, name it something obvious.

now log the sensor output whenever you do what it is that causes errors.

the output file is a CSV file, can be read in Excel or Google Docs

If you want me to look at outcome, please upload it. I see what I can find.
Software isn't perfect test but it might show something obvious.

Also, to answer your question, yes this only happens in games. I can't recall this crash ever happening when just on my desktop working on something. On top of this it seems the crashes are kinda specific when it chooses when to crash. For example it crashes frequently while playing WoW and Dying Light specifically. I'm sure I could find others that do the same, but those are just a few to be named.

if you go to system information app
on the left hand side, click on Software Environement/Windows Error Reporting

On a normal PC I see this info on, they will have a few Application Errors.
Your PC is an exception, there are so many more than normal. NO actual BSOD though, as you said.

Part of the Nvidia driver package keeps failing
NVDisplayContainer.exe crashed 5 times at 6.20pm yesterday?? or day before

In the windows error reporting area of this page (scroll the right hand column down) You have a lot of RADAR Pre Leaks, I had to look them up to see what it means
RADAR is the slightly inexact acronym for Microsoft's Windows Resource Exhaustion Detection and Resolution feature. One component of this feature is the Resource Exhaustion Resolver, which "notifies you of the three top resource consumers so that you can take action by shutting one or more of these applications down to increase resource availability".

That the resource exhaustion resolver has started would seem to indicate that Windows thinks it has too little memory available.

RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64 simply means the OS has detected a resource intensive process running which isn't managing its memory very well (it isn't a memory leak, it is "pre-leak", meaning the OS' RADAR function thinks this could become a memory leak. The code you get with it, usually 0xc0000005, is simply a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION, meaning the process tried to access memory it doesn't have (assuming it's a standard Windows HRESULT).

https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1322989

https://channel9.msdn.com/Shows/Going+Deep/RADAR-Windows-Automatic-Memory-Leak-Detection

Why would windows ever think its running out of resources on a pc with 32gb of ram? most of the time they don't cause errors but it seems strange still.
Could be a memory leak caused by a driver

Can you download and run Driverview - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html
All it does is looks at drivers installed; it won't install any (this is intentional as 3rd party driver updaters often get it wrong)

When you run it, go into view tab and set it to hide all Microsoft drivers, will make list shorter.

Can you take a screenshot from (and including)Driver name to (and including)Creation date.

upload it to an image sharing website and show link here

All I would do is look at driver versions (or dates if you lucky to have any) to see what might have newer versions.

Its not an exact science, old drivers can cause leaks, but it could just as easily be a new driver. If I can see what you have it might give me some clues.

right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter
once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth and press enter

SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files, re run SFC if it failed to fix all files and restart PC

if you go to system information app
on the left hand side, click on Software Environement/Windows Error Reporting

On a normal PC I see this info on, they will have a few Application Errors.
Your PC is an exception, there are so many more than normal. NO actual BSOD though, as you said.

Part of the Nvidia driver package keeps failing
NVDisplayContainer.exe crashed 5 times at 6.20pm yesterday?? or day before

In the windows error reporting area of this page (scroll the right hand column down) You have a lot of RADAR Pre Leaks, I had to look them up to see what it means

https://channel9.msdn.com/Shows/Going+Deep/RADAR-Windows-Automatic-Memory-Leak-Detection

Thanks for the reply c: here's the pic of my drivers View: https://imgur.com/a/930oMXB
and input the commands into my powershell and was told no restart was needed. I'm really lost on what to do but I appreciate the help.

I wish you had more creation dates but then your number is about as many as I have.

try updating VMWare since it accounts for half of your drivers
intel management engine interface seems to be from 2020, might be okay.
update synapse
if you run this, there might be newer WIFI - https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html
looks like new lan drivers on - https://www.realtek.com/en/componen...0-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software
I was curious and decided to wipe the main drive on the PC and reinstall everything. I also ran the PC through a program that checks for outdated drivers and helps update them. It found 2 drivers related to ethernet and WiFi and I proceeded to update them. Unfortunately on a fresh install of Windows and little to no programs installed the crash is still happening. I'm starting to doubt that it has something to do with drivers at this point. I'm tempted to order a case, mobo and psu and put together a new one myself. Cyberpower put this one together terribly and I wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason why some of the parts are faulty. For example the GPU came half detached from the mobo and the one of the safety clips on the mobo that holds the GPU in place was snapped off. I believe just about everything on the PC should be up to date with a fresh install. If you have any other ideas to try on my end, i'd be more than happy to try it, however it's looking like it might be a hardware issue at this point.

what program as I don't trust 3rd party updaters. Prefer to do it manually so you know what is there.

well, it is Cyberpower

ram - passes memtest, also tried other ram, same errors.
storage - checked out
CPU - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool
mb - no real actual tests, you check everything else out, and if everything else is okay, it could be MB
PSU - well, it is the standard, I seen people advise against getting this, on Cyberpowers own forums.

I didn't think to look at hwinfo report, if you gave me one. Its not accurate really when it comes to working out if PSU is cause.
  1. the paper clip method - https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/what-is-the-paperclip-method-of-testing-a-psu.1336402/
  2. or multimeter,
  3. or in the BIOS to check the +3.3V, +5V, and +12V. - https://www.lifewire.com/power-supply-voltage-tolerances-2624583

Thanks for the reply, i've ran the CPU test and everything has passed perfectly and yeah I've heard the 3rd party software could be an issue. Unfortunately i've tried to reach out to cyberpower they havent really responded. I've ordered a new more reliable PSU and motherboard. I'm just gonna use most of the working parts from this PC and rebuild it with the better parts and see if everything works out. At this point i'm fairly sure it's an issue with a faulty mobo or PSU, but i'll find out tomorrow when the parts get here. I really appreciate all of the help you've given me. It means a lot that you'd go through these length to try and help me out.

hope the 2 new parts are all it takes :)
Hi :), update. I got everything set up in the new pc with a new motherboard and a new PSU. However; the crashes ensue. I'm on a brand new install of windows, new drivers. I've tried overclocked and with default BIOS settings. Same results. I really just have no clue at this point. The only thing I can think of is maybe a bad CPU? Idk anymore i'm just perplexed.
