7th gen cpu on a 6th gen motherboard?

So i currently have an i3-7100 which is 7th gen and a msi H110 PRO-VH which is an 6th gen board. Works just fine. Does that mean that i can upgrade to a 7th gen i5 and work just like the i3?

the answer is yes, just make sure your bios is updated before you change to an I5/I7 or have the correct corresponding Bios version already on your system
and you should be good to go.
