I'm confused, where the hell is all my other Ram going?
I have nothing on when I check it in my system on control panel

My Ram is installed in the first and third spot at 4gb each stick

You might want to check how much ram your motherboard is compatible with. Older motherboards may not support even 4GB of ram unless you updated the bios to the newest version(which would all for it to be compatible).

Also, Windows 32-bit generally only supports a maximum of 4GB. You would require a 64-bit edition of windows to run 8GB or more, depending on the specific edition.

M5A78L-M/USB3 is my Motherboard which is compatable with 4GB Plus and I'm runing 64 bit edition of Windows

THe most common cause of this on an AM3+ motherboard is bent pins on the CPU. Very likely 2 or more pins are bent. Remove your CPU and check the pins, bend them back if they are even the slightest bit off. Use a magnifying glass.

3.98 usable? Wow-wow-wow. Where are you getting this number? Have u fired up the Task Manager and note which apps are using up the ram? Are u getting this number right after boot?

Try installing both DIMM's on the blue slot.
Check the BIOS that each RAM module is detected properly.

Right click the start menu and search for system config. Go to the boot tab and select advanced options. Make sure the max memory box is not checked.
