8.00GB RAM installed, 3.20GB usable.

Hi,

I have a new computer and the specification are as follows.

Processor: AMD A6-6400K 3.90Ghz
Memory: 8.00GB DDR3 1600MHz
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A68HM-HD2
Power Supply: 500W

The issue is that when I check my system properties through Windows, it tells me I had 8GB installed memory and that on 3.20GB is usable. I have checked my System Bios and it says that 8GB is installed but 4GB is usable.

What's the model #(s) of the DRAM and what CPU cooler are you using?

are you ABSOLUTELY sure you have a 64-bit OS?... cause it doesn't sound like it ^^

Hi,

The memory that I have installed is one 8GB stick and it's by AMD. Nothing amazing to be honest. My CPU cooler is just the standard AMD cooler. I have moved the memory to my other channel and it's still giving me the same result. The BIOS says that I have 8GB installed and 4GB usable still.

Strange, have you checked the APU and socket for debris or bent/broken pins? Tried the DRAM in a different rig?

This is either a BIOS settings thing or an OS thing, not an hardware issue, since it is the OS which can only use 3.2.
