8 gb of ram installed 5 gb are usable

I have 8 gb of ram installed and I have windows 10 64 bit and it says only 5gb of ram are usable. I have a radeon hd 6870 installed and I read sometimes a gpu might use part of the system memory. Is something wrong or is my gpu using the ram? Thanks

Wow that seems like alot of ram being used for windows 10 since the OS will run on a 1 GHZ PROCESSOR AND 1 GIG OF RAM according to MS...

probably because you have 32bit not 64bit windows installed!.....I would double check.....easy mistake to make!......that's what the issue sounds like to me! 32bit windows ram limitation...if it was 64bit It would recagnise all the ram!!

Windows 32-bit has a max RAM allowance of 4GB, so if 5GB is showing up as available 39bdog can't be running Windows 32-bit.

I know I have windows 64 bit. I just checked again. I am certain I have windows 64 bit

Yep win running 32 bit will only show 4 gigs max no matter how many gigs of ram you have installed in your system.

My Motherboar is a Gigabyte GA‑890XA‑UD3

My Cpu is a AMD Atholn II x4 630

And I have 2 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Patriot PSD34G160081 in slot one and two

Yeah I was sort of thinking that. But 3 gigs just for a gpu sounds like a lot
