8 Phase Power vs 12 Phase Power

How much difference does it make? I am currently choosing between the ASRock Z97 Extreme4 and ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer. I want to overclock a Intel Core i5 4690K to 4GHz.

For a modest overclock like you want, 8 phase would be fine. More phases are needed when going for high overclocks.

8 is usually plenty for those Intel chips. But in general the Extreme4 has better MOSFETs and PWM complexity. But they'll both probably overclock to pretty similar levels.

Both those boards use analog controllers (meh). The Fatality is 4 phase and the Extreme 4 is 6 phase. True 8 phase VRM with digital controller is what I'd get. Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5.

could be hybrid ? my z87 extreme6 is so called that way but never had issue with it -

thing is how much faith can you put into any of it from any brand ?? all I see so far it been doing a fine job.


I was looking for that white paper as well [40 amp part ] giga has one kind or another kind on the same board ??? toss up parts ??? what one for giga will you get ?? 25amp part or the 43 amp part ?? pot luck on that I guess

they all work under intel spec . ,but the thing is regardless what board you get of any brand is weather or not you end up with the lemon I dumped my ''last'' 3 asus and went asrock and cant say it was a wrong move [opinion]
