Hi,
So im building a pc and i have run into a issue with the cpu cable. On one end, the cable just has an 8 pin connector. On the other end the the cable is split into 2 8 pins in which those are split in half (4 pin - 4pin). My issue is that the plugs dont fit into the slot on the motherboard.

The shapes dont match on the split 4 pin to connect to the motherboard. Am i supposed to use a 4pin from each 8 pin, if i do that the shapes would match. But i dont know why they would do that.

Im sorry if this was confusing, its kinda hard to explain. Ive never seen this before on a pc.

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks

Is this a modular PSU?
Are you talking about the cable which is detachable from PSU?

Yes it is fully modular and yes that cpu cable that attaches to it. It is the thermaltake rbg smart power 850w, and the z370 gaming m5 motherboard

Great, Usually lower end motherboards which are designed for lower watt CPUs have only 4 pins for CPU connector. That's why they have a 4x2 CPU connector.

The right way is to connect the 8Pin connector to the PSU and 4X2 pin to your motherboard.

There will be a notch on the side of either 4x2 connectors which will match to makeup a 1x8 connector.

I found this picture of your PS to CPU cable in a review elsewhere on Tom’s:

The end with the single connector connects to the power supply. Then one pair of the 4 pin connectors, lets say the pair all the way at the end of the cable, connects to the mainboard. They will connect. Keep trying. You can plug one of the 4 pin connectors in at a time but when you are done the little tabs on the side the two 4 pin connectors will be right next to each other.
