I have a PSU with 1x 6-pin and 1x 8-pin PCI-e connectors.

The GPU I have just bought requires 2 x 6-pin... Doh!

The 8-pin connector has a small plastic bridge to stop it being plugged into the 8-pin EPS socket (http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#pciexpress8) but the 6 pins to the left line up with the 6-pin PCI socket on the GPU.

Rather than go out and buy a new PSU when the one I have has adequate power just the wrong connector. I'm thinking about cutting the plastic bridge, essentially turning the 8-pin into a 6+2. Will this work??

Unfortunately not. It was an actual 8-pin not a 6+2.

I used a knife to cut the additional 2 connections off of the main block and it seems to work ok.

Hopefully just saved myself the cost of a new PSU

Yeah I know, the EPS connector, already using that and the 24 pin to power the MOBO. It actually has a seperate 8-pin marked 'PCI-e' so in theory it should be ok.

the PSU is a HIPER 4M630
