8 Pin PCI-E vs Dual 8 Pin PCI-E

I've never seen or used a dual 8 pin PCI-E cable and was simply wondering if it's used to replace 2 separate 8 pin PCI-E's? Is it one cable that splits into two 8 pin connectors like an 8+6 pin? Can it be used in the same exact way? Is there a downside to using a dual 8 pin instead of two separate 8 pin cables? I know the name is likely self-explanatory but I want to be sure.

I plan to use an EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W in my next build to power a single EVGA FTW 1080. Otherwise, you can use a single dual 8 pin instead of two separate 8 pins? In the end it'd be ever so slightly more convenient and easier to cable manage.

If it a good brand psu, It will probably be fine

Ah I see.

You are talking about the daisy chained connectors where they put two 6+2 pin connectors from a single PSU connection. This is relatively common. What they typically do is use thicker gauge wire, going from 18 to 16.

6-pin carries 2 12V+ wires, 8-pin carries 3. All that is done to share the load between the wires so they don't heat up and increase resistance which causes voltage drop across the wire.
