Can I use an 8 pin psu cpu connector to a 4 pin cpu connector on my motherboard or do I need to buy an adapter cable for this?

Solution
Use the half of the 8-pin connector that fits. Most PSUs have an 8 pin connector that is two fours split. The holes are squared and circles, etc so that it will fit only one way.

Spooky2th,
is one 4 pin connector to fully power an FX-6300?, i have the same problema, a PSU with two 4 pin connector, but my buld doesn't power up with either one or two 4 pin connected to MoBo, i want to try what you suggested about the adapter but don't know if only one of this 4 pin is enough, any help?

If your motherboard supports the FX series then you should be fine. If it is designed to support 125W CPUs, and the CPU pin connector is the only source of power going into it, then it must be enough.

Using a 4 pin in an 8 pin slot works as well. You should generally get a PSU that will fully support your motherboard, however it is doable.

Thanks for the prompt answer, my problem is that both 4 pin connectors fits in the MoBo (ECS A970M-A), i tried one at a time, then the other one, thanks to you now i know that one will provide enough power, next i'm gonna try to check if the color code on the connector fits the pattern in the MoBo configuration, ground and power cables in the correct position, cheers.

I don't see how the color code will help. If you aren't putting it in correctly the pin won't even go half way in. A square will be trying to go into a rounded square, it just won't fit. Ensure that your 24V is plugged in all the way. There could be other issues too, but you would have to message me or make a new thread to explore it.

Yeah, i would like to show you a screen capture of the MoBo manual, it sshows the cable configuration in the 8 Pin ATX socket, but i don´t know how to add it, i think it is not posible to connect any 4 pin into this MoBo.
