My set up is in need of an upgrade and I have saved 800 euro for it.

I currently have a PC I built myself, about 5 years ago. It has an i5 4670 and a 280X, and while it's fine for most of the games I play (Civilisation, Left for Dead, and occasionally Battlefield), It has started to crash when I have been editing a lot, along with just occasionally acting up in general.

I am starting college at the moment, so I do kind of need a laptop, so I am basically between upgrading my PC and getting something cheap or getting a good laptop.

The new laptop or upgraded PC would be used for editing short films occasionally, which would probably be the most intensive thing I use it for. Other than that as I mentioned above I occasionally play some intensive games like battlefield, but honestly not enough that performance in that regard would be a huge factor. I am in Ireland, so things are always a bit more expensive to get delivered here.

All help and Advice appreciated.

You have a very decent pc now.
See if you can't find out the cause of the crashes.
Perhaps your cooler has come loose and the cpu is throttling.
If you want to replace the cooler, look for a good tower type cooler.
I very much like the scythe kotetsu which sells for about $35.

You buy a laptop for portability.
If you will need one to take to classes, then look for something small and light with good run time on battery.
Realize that laptops are not significantly upgradeable so what you buy will have to do until you want to replace it.

As to upgrading your pc,
For gaming, something in the GTX1070 class would be the minimum for fast action gaming.

OTOH, if you need...

OTOH, if you need cpu horsepower, replacing your i5-4570 with a I5-4690K or I7-4790K and a good overclock will be a major upgrade.
