Solution

seems like a fairly solid build to me. however i would try and swap out the HDD for a WD black HDD because i have had bad experiences with there blue drives.

iv owned 2, its worth the upgrade to the black drive. plus WD specifically states the use of the black drives is for gaming and other heaver tasks and there website. in my opinion its worth the extra 20 - 30 dollars for a superior experience.

Actually, when given the choice.. most people would pick the black over the blue...

Given the choice, I'd pick a 980Ti over a 950. But it costs more.

I would redo this build to revolve around the GTX 970 (instead of the 960). Unless you're looking for an entry-level gaming system... it's not really worth it to buy the 960... and you, the ASKER, might be disappointed with it's performance.

I'm not the asker. I created a build that fulfills exactly to his specifications. If you were to put in a 970, how exactly would you cut costs? Buying a crappy power supply that'll fry the system? An I3 CPU instead of the better I5?

Consider it a challenge 😉

Actually, I was responding to the asker... I saw how you responded about the blue vs black drive... hehehe...

A GTX 970 is $160 more. That would mean cheaper PSU and cheaper case (and I take PSU quality seriously, and who doesn't like a nice looking case and a full modular PSU?) Even then, you still have to cut $100. Lowering the CPU to an I3, and the SSD to 128GB does that trick. But realistically, lots of cuts there I don't want to take. Especially the CPU, an I5 is much better for gaming. Better to have a strong CPU and a weak GPU than a weak CPU and a strong GPU.

I'm aware of the costs... I'm simply implying the asker will have to touch base with his "friend" and create a new budget for the build or make sacrifices... like perhaps getting rid of the one of the drives for now and adding it at a later time.

Alright guys I got my answer, everyone has a right to their own opinion. I have a fair knowledge about pc's I just wanted a second oppinion to verify my thoughts, guy who recommended the build got best answer, thanks for the help pals
