Im looking into building a i5-2400 build and if it cant be done with $820-$850 then i'll just take a amd cpu.thx for any help

You can probably still fit in 2x4GB memory instead if you want to, but the 4GB should be enough.
The 6870 should run most things at pretty high settings on your 1600x900 resolution.
And you can simply buy a 2nd 6870 and put that in for crossfire if you run out of juice, the PSU, Mobo and Case can handle it.
