82GB randomly filled up after clean windows 7 install

Hey i need your help fixing this problem:



Basically i install windows 7 on my hard drive and after wards i go to disk properties for my primary hard drive. I see my disk filled up with 82GB already.

How come? Before install windows, i checked that if i have system restore enabled.

I used Cc Cleaner and its disk wiping utility to erase free space on the disk. Could it be the free space deleted means that you can no longer use the space any more?

It was on so i cleared the restore points. The problem is when i format the disk using g parted utility, the hard drive becomes known as Unformulated . Then again i did a re partition, this time applying the NTFS file system on my hard drive.

After that i performed a clean install of windows 7 professional service pack 1. The problem persists. The drives shows that the used space is still 82GB.

The disk is taking up space even after clean install of windows. I have not even installed 1 program after i install windows and after it took me to the desktop.

Why is that happening? Can someone please help me fix it?

Hi

it is not clear if you understand the difference between partitioning a hard drive and formatting a partition before use

assuming you have no valuable data which is not backed up elseware.
use gparted to remove all partitions on the hard drive

then boot from Windows 7 sp1 DVD or USB
it will partition the hard drive into at least 2 partitions
the first boot manager partition will be very small less than a 100MB

you have option of creating a C: & D: partition if you take advanced options during setup

Once windows 7 sp1 is installed check used & free space
should be less than 20GB used

add drivers for motherboard chipset, audio, graphics, network etc

You then leave PC on internet for a day (depending on broadband speed) to down load all upgrades after W7 SP1 released.
If you installed from Win 7 (not 7 with SP1) you may end up with Windows.old when SP 1 upgrade occurs.

What program are you using to report space free or used?

Restore points can use a lot of space but over a period of months not immediately after installing Windows

you may have a hidden recovery partition showing up in Disk Management
If taking option to format C: (windows partition) during installation what was there before does not matter

If you do not format existing Windows partition it is likely that existing windows & program files & program data & program files (x86) are moved to hidden folder windows.old

Disk Cleanup can remove these hidden backups for you if you dont want to install Windows 7 again

Check if you have any bad sectors on your drive in other words, inaccessible areas in your hard drive. If it's completely healthy then just install a different Windows, such as 8.1

Ok thanks I have found an solution. It was junk files. Thanks for that second post. Now I have deleted the restore points too. I found out that to delete the points I must turn restore mode off
