8350 + R9 290 w/ 600w PSU

Hi all,

Below is my build. Do you think the PSU will be enough to power this build? Apart from the CPU being at 4.3GHz, I'm NOT going to be overclocking at all/any more. (PCPP estimates the usage at 494w)

TL: DR - Will a 600w PSU power the below build?

While a 600w power supply would be plenty for your build, I would steer away from the cx series by Corsair. They use cheap parts and have developed a reputation for not lasting very long.
If you can tell me what country youre from, what site you prefer to order from, and a budget for the power supply, I can help you pick one out.

I already own the CX600 Thanks for the offer of help, but if I'm going to have to buy a new PSU then upgrading my GPU is out of the question as I'm stretched thin as it is :/

Well, if you already have one, it is enough to power your build. It's not that the PSU is gonna explode in a matter of days, their longevity is the biggest question. I used a cx600 to power a 4670k oc'd to 4.2 and a gtx 770 sc, and had no issues in the month or so I was using it. As long as you arent pushing it past it's 600w rating, you should be fine.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll go for it in a couple of weeks and then maybe upgrade the PSU in a couple of months. Just looked up a few power consumption charts and most say it maxes at 380ish. (Apart from one that had it at 490 :S) Would underclocking it slightly improve power usage?

Honestly, unless you absolutely need it, I would just run the cpu at the stock speeds until you can upgrade the power supply. The fx 8 and 9 series cpus use a ton of power, and while overclocking would provide a small increase in gaming performance, it's not going to be a bunch.

I wouldn't worry about that overclock. They're not the best PSU's, but they are still bronze rated, and still a name brand. You'll be fine at 4.3 with that setup and that PSU. I don't even know that upgrading the PSU in a few months is really needed either, but that's your decision.

Thanks a lot for your input, I might wait until I start overclocking to upgrade the PSU along with the mobo. Cheers
