At full load my cpu gets to 84 degrees, I think this is a little high. Do I need new thermal paste or something? I'm using the I5 4440 with the stock cooler

Solution
If it is not overclocked, it's too much. Check for the heatsink legs connected properly and if so, you'll need to reapply the thermal paste. Also check whether a sticker is there between the cpu contact. If so you'll need to remove it.

Some people just attach CPU coolers without removing the safety sticker.

what's a good thermal paste for around $5-10?

i don't know the room temp but without running any games it's around 35-40

if your room is that freaking hot than ur better off buying a 212 EVO to keep things safe the CPU will be fine living at that temp but u will be killing the chip fast it is best to keep it around 77C as a max safe temp for 24/7 use
