I have a Samsung 850 pro 128, I am doing a fresh build and have no idea what I'm doing. Does this AHCI thing apply to windows 8 prior to install? how does one do this process? (in bios?), and do I need to update bios first? (if so what wizardry can manage this without an OS?).

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Solution
new build set date and time up.
2. turn on xmp ram profile.
3. under sata chipset make sure it achi mode some mb if you turn on intel rapid start the sata chipset made go into raid mode.
4. from another pc put on the mb newest bios file onto a usb stick and update the mb bios with built in bios updater in the mb bios.
5. firmnware on the ssd should be fine unless it old stock. you need to install the samsung tools after you install windows to read and then update the firmware if needed. (some firmware update will wipe the ssd of all data).
6. when you install windows have the mb drivers expaned and on a usb stick. hit f6 and install the chipset and ethernet and any other drivers. most newer intel mb will boot fine with the chipset...
